A recent survey conducted by employment site Indeed has revealed that Indian professionals are prioritizing flexibility in their job preferences, with 71% of respondents indicating that flexibility is the top parameter they consider when seeking a job. This flexibility includes the ability to work from home, set their own hours, and take breaks as needed. The survey, which included data from over 1,200 job seekers in India, found that work modes such as hybrid or remote arrangements were the second most important consideration (70%) for job seekers.

Interestingly, the survey indicated a disconnect between job seekers’ preferences and employers’ offerings. While a significant percentage of job seekers expressed interest in remote work and flexibility, employers were less likely to mention “work from home” or “remote work” in their job ads. Only 6.5% of job postings in June explicitly mentioned remote work options, despite over 10% of job searches being related to remote or hybrid work.

The survey also highlighted that 63% of respondents preferred a hybrid work setting, where they could work from home on some days and from the office on others. However, only 51% of surveyed employers provided this option. The desire to bring employees back to the office is influenced by factors such as restoring a sense of pre-pandemic normalcy, maintaining corporate culture, and enhancing communication and collaboration. Employers also perceive physical presence in the office as a way to enhance productivity and accountability.

The findings underscore the evolving nature of work and the need for organizations to adapt to changing preferences and trends. While some employers are keen on a return to the traditional office environment, the survey reflects that employees value flexibility and hybrid work arrangements, suggesting that a balanced approach that considers both perspectives may be crucial for organizations moving forward.
