The rising fuel costs, growing awareness about environmental conservation, and the need for simple, feasible, and cost-effective means of transport, have led to the development of eco-friendly alternative means of electric vehicle solutions. Functioning on a battery-powered DC motor which makes the mechanism simple and easy, EVs offer a decent mileage per charge, pollution-free transport that works at almost one-third of the cost of the petrol/diesel vehicle.

Revolutionizing the innovative concept of EVs further, Adapt Motors offers electric vehicles in the three-wheeler commercial vehicle segment. Earlier, electric vehicles were common in 2-wheelers, 4-wheelers, and buses; however, the smaller commercial segment is the one, where Adapt Motors offers its efficient solutions. This transformationally disruptive firm based in Hyderabad is guided by its Managing Director, BharathMamidoju, who initiated the development of robust, energy-efficient, and eco-friendly commercial vehicles.

An Electrifying Start

India is a country of many young talents aspiring to contribute their knowledge and learning to society and henceforth build a strong nation.  Adapt Motors also shares such a thought and energy. Preserving the environment and introducing future mobility is the theme of the company––striving to build a greater good by sourcing the best available resources.

The company began the Research and Development on electrical vehicles at the beginning of 2015, however, the name ‘Adapt Motors Private Limited’ was incorporated on the 7th of October, 2015. The company introduced its design and shared its prototype with certified test agencies in early 2016 and by the end of the year on December 9th, 2016, Company staged a grand unveiling of models “SWEEKAR” and “SWEEKAR L”.

The company is supplying and provides post-sales services in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. The company has supplied vehicles to elite organizations like the Indian Army, Municipalities of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, TCS, Shree Cements, Ramakrishna Mutt, Kamineni Hospitals, and many more such PSU, Corporate, NGOs, and start-ups.

The Visionary Leadership

Bharath is a businessman and an adventurer. BharathMamidoju was born in 1990. He grew up in a traditional family and received his education at TKR College of Engineering, where he participated in many events that were being organized on and off the college campus.  He completed his Post Graduation Certification in Rural Development from the National Institute of Rural Development. Later he joined a venture by the name ECOMSI BUSINESS SOLUTIONS (India) Private Limited as Public Relations Manager and gradually grew his profile to be one of the Directors of the company in a span of five years – such is his dedication towards work.

Bharath has proved to himself from time to time that pressure and challenges are meant to improve one’s standard. A year and a half ago he started a study on futuristic business plans and came across some of the business plans. After analyzing and taking the best opinions from experienced business advisors, he finally funneled the channel to a business that would be a part of the Make in India process which would support Environmental pollution eradication and would be a daily need of the commuters.

Thus, gave birth to Adapt Motors– a solution for urban transportation– a manufacturing unit for non-polluting vehicles. Currently, the company is manufacturing commercial vehicles in the three-wheeler segment.

He is responsible for the external matters of ADAPT: building partnerships and broader business relationships, government outreach, and technology thought leadership, as well as advising the Executive members of the company and senior leadership on business and policy issues.

Technology-the Changemaker

Modern technologies have transformed the automobile industry through various dimensions. Improving the quality, speed, efficiency, comfort, and safety has accelerated the driving experience and has contributed to boosting the efficiency of regional businesses. Adapt Motors was formed with the vision of offering the best quality electric mobility in commercial vehicles.

The modern technologies of GPS tracking and guiding system have enabled vehicles in reaching their destinations easily. The fleet management companies and the business organizations are updated with the modern tracking system about the progress and location of the delivery vehicle. The inbuilt system gives reminders for the next servicing/maintenance just like the battery consumption indicators.

Tackling the Challenges

According to Bharath, the challenges faced were basically related to government regulations and the non-availability of a single window approach to secure required permissions.

Being one of the pioneers in developing electric vehicles in India, we had to create a huge awareness in the market to sell, we had to reach many vendors, re-design the product, and explain to many vendors the service needed as per our product design,” reveals Bharath. And being a start-up, it is always challenging to do all the above approaches with limited funds and resources.

“Today, things have improved in government offices for start-ups,” he says. Though there are still gaps in the process, it is approachable. Moreover, after the COVID-19 wave, the market has been open to EVs due to the new mindset of saving on fuel and using private commuting rather than public transportation.

Piece of Advice

Bharat believes that the market accepts quality and reliable products. “Entrepreneurs should investigate developing products and services that bring confidence to the end user to try the product/service. The audience has been looking for an economically viable product and anyone who can assure such an innovation shall lead the industry.”

The Future Leap

Adapt Motors is looking at both vertical and horizontal expansions. With an envision of skill development and building an energetic and strong next-generation technical manpower, the business is creating a comprehensive curriculum for technical and management training programs. The company is working with some of the highly intellectual and experienced minds in the country from renowned names in the educational industry. The company is also working with a few engineering and management colleges in setting up incubation centres for ease of the program. The company is looking to reach, train and develop and place around 10000 students in the next three years.

On the other hand, the company is developing 3-wheeler commercial vehicles, a modern dirt bike, an economical commercial utility 2-wheeler model, and agriculture utility products that work on electric-powered batteries. The company is looking to launch all these products in the upcoming next two-three years.

With overseas success post-corona, we are planning gradual penetration in other overseas regions. We are cautious about the current economic slow-down around the world but are steadily building strategies for regional expansion around the globe,” concludes Bharath.
