“You need nerves of steel to conquer the world, dear!” says Dad to son. Innocent of his age, unable to understand the phrase’s meaning, that naïve little son asks the father about it. Explaining the definition of having courage and power to face difficulties, the father decides to leave the premises and again gets distracted by the son, who is still stuck with the word ‘nerves’. With a mischievous smile, the father comments, “It is a bundle of fibres that send messages from body to brain. And your daddy daily deals with it.” That was a glimpse of a small conversation between the son and his father, a Neurosurgeon.
As the doctor said, a neurosurgeon has to deal with various diseases regarding the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles. They diagnose complex conditions through detailed study and cure them with their expertise and experience.

My journey in the neurosurgery segment has been one of continuous learning, growth, and dedication to providing excellent brain care. After passing my MCh Neurosurgery from the prestigious Sawai Mansingh Medical College, which is a very high-volume centre, I worked with Dr B K Misra sir at PD Hinduja Hospital and learned the skills of operating complex Brain and skull base tumours along the neurovascular cases.
Later, I went for a fellowship in a minimally invasive brain and endoscopic Skull base at Weill Cornell medical centre in New York. After completing my fellowship, I joined as an assistant professor at Super speciality Hospital GMC Nagpur, where I had great hands-on experience in operating complex brain and spine cases.

Being an experienced leader, share your opinion on how adopting modern technologies like AI and ML impacts today’s healthcare sector and how your clinic is adapting to the change.
Adopting modern technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) is revolutionizing the healthcare sector, including neurosurgery. These technologies have the potential to significantly enhance diagnostic accuracy, treatment planning, and patient outcomes. At our hospital, we recognize the transformative impact of AI and ML in neurosurgery and have embraced these advancements to improve patient care.
Considering the modern lifestyle of the people, what kind of challenges do you face in the neurological field, and how do you drive your services to overcome them?
Considering the modern lifestyle, the young population is getting more spinal problems due to a sedentary lifestyle, poor eating habits, poor posture, being overweight, lack of exercise, and less time for sleep.
All this has contributed to an upsurge in neurological conditions such as stroke, chronic pain, and neurodegenerative disorders. I conduct regular health talks, telling the importance of posture, nutrition, sleep, exercise, etc.
What would you advise budding medical professionals who aspire to venture into the neurology sector?
Neurosurgery is a time-consuming branch. My advice to budding medical professionals aspiring to venture into the neurology sector is to cultivate a deep passion for the field and commit to lifelong learning.
