IndiGo said on April 25 that it has decided to put a definite order for thirty A350-900 aircraft, indicating the low-cost airline’s foray into the wide-body market. Airbus announced on Monday that 30 A350-900 aircraft have been firm orders made by IndiGo. IndiGo said on April 25 that it has decided to put a definite order for thirty A350-900 aircraft, indicating the low-cost airline’s foray into the wide-body market.
“India, the world’s fastest growing major aviation market, is on the verge of an international travel boom as the economy grows and household incomes rise,” Airbus said in a release.
“The A350 is perfectly positioned to serve the country’s aspirations for long-range travel,” it said.
The transaction’s financial specifics were kept under wraps. According to the statement, the A350 is the most advanced and effective wide-body aircraft in the 300–410 seater class in the world. IndiGo has placed an order with Airbus for thirty A350 wide-body high-capacity aircraft. The European aerospace manufacturer stated in a statement that IndiGo’s decision to stick with the A350 is a testament to their ongoing faith in Airbus.
Airbus stated on Monday that IndiGo had placed an order for thirty Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with delivery scheduled to begin in 2027. With 324 Airbus A320 family aircraft in operation and about 1,000 more on order, IndiGo is the biggest user of Airbus’ best-selling aircraft.
According to an Airbus confirmation, IndiGo has partially paid for the contract in order to secure delivery slots. The deal is valued $12 billion at list price, but airlines typically receive significant discounts on large orders.
“We are proud that our fuel-efficient, next-generation A320 Family revolutionised domestic air travel in India, and that now the A350 is poised to replicate the same success on long-haul routes,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales, Commercial Aircraft.
