Tata Power has launched a Solar Initiative in Tamil Nadu To Boost Solar Energy

Tata Power’s subsidiary, TPREL, had implemented an innovative program to promote the use of far cleaner and cost-effective solution of solar energy in each one of the states of Tamil Nadu. The program Ghar Ghar Solar, Tata Power ke Sang was flagged off by Praveer Sinha, Tata Power CEO and MD, who was ably accompanied by Deepesh Nanda, CEO and MD of TPREL.

The initiative builds on the successes of TPREL in other states and builds on successes recorded in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Chhattisgarh; it has seen transitions to clean energy. Through this facility, its residents in the state of Tamil Nadu are made possible to come up with some energy from the sun that would reduce their expenses on electricity.

Tamil Nadu happens to be the leading state in India with a significant installed solar capacity of above 240 MW, residential, commercial, and industrial units. In this context, another very crucial constituent of Tata Power’s operations in the state will be the solar cell and module manufacturing facility located at Tirunelveli, at an aggregate capacity of 4.3 GW, thereby enhancing domestic production and gradually reducing dependency on imports.

Sinha emphasized that the Ghar Ghar Solar initiative is important since it transitions to clean and affordable energy through rooftop solar solutions. This will help in bringing thousands of households so that they could be controlling their energy needs while bringing the average monthly electric bill down.

The program aligns with the Indian government’s PM Surya Ghar Yojana whereby families can accrue big financial incentives. Other incentives made for these systems include; ₹30,000 government subsidies for 1 kilowatt, ₹60,000 for a 2kilo -watt system and up to ₹78,000 for systems that power from 3 kilowatts to 10 kilowatts. That makes such conversion economically viable for household use.

In addition to the installation subsidies, TPREL’s initiative offers innovative metering options that allow households to acquire credits for surplus electricity generated. Credits earned can be used in the settlement of future electricity bills and therefore make roof-top solar solutions more financially viable.

This program launch marks the significant step toward increasing renewable energy penetration in Tamil Nadu and, finally, toward larger goals of sustainability for India.
