India is on track to become one of the world’s top producers of solar modules and has the fastest-growing capacity for renewable energy, according to R K Singh, the Union Minister for Power.
He noted that India has significant capacity for producing solar energy currently and mentioned “even larger capacities under construction, including polysilicon.”
In terms of renewable energy, especially green hydrogen, India is positioned to become a global powerhouse while supporting a healthy ecosystem.
“With one of the largest manufacturing ecosystems in wind energy and rapidly growing capacity in solar energy, India is the world leader in this regard,” Singh said while speaking at an ICRA event in the national capital.
The minister said that the nation has the fastest-growing potential for renewable energy and is on track to become one of the biggest producers of solar modules.
According to him, India has met its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) goal of 40% capacity from renewable sources.
Additionally, he stated that the nation is on track to achieve the goal of a 50% capacity share from renewable energy well before the NDC’s 2030 deadline.
Singh claimed that despite having one of the world’s fastest expanding economies, India’s per capita emissions of greenhouse gases are significantly lower than the world average.
He said that the nation is unwavering in its commitment to sustainable growth, the expansion of renewable energy sources, and the adoption of electric vehicles. The government is working to strike a delicate balance between servicing its soaring energy needs and lowering carbon emissions, he said.
The country is resolved to construct a brighter, greener future for future generations, he said, by carefully combining economic progress with environmental awareness.
