Officials stated Friday that the Ghaziabad Police have written a notice to Twitter India’s Managing Director, requesting him to join an investigation into an assault on a Muslim man here.
Manish Maheshwari has been summoned to the Loni Border police station here within seven days to give his testimony in the matter in which a FIR has been registered against the social media giant, according to a police official.
The Ghaziabad Police on Tuesday arrested Twitter, the news website The Wire, as well as certain journalists and Congress officials, in connection with the distribution of a video in which an elderly Muslim man claims he was assaulted and told to shout “Jai Shri Ram” on June 5. According to the authorities, the video was released in order to incite community disturbance.
They claim the incident occurred because the accused were dissatisfied with the ‘tabeez’ (amulets) sold to them by the guy, Abdul Shamad Saifi.
Twitter Inc, Twitter Communications India, news website The Wire, journalists Mohammed Zubair and Rana Ayyub, Congress politicians Salman Nizami, Maskoor Usmani, Shama Mohamed, and writer Saba Naqvi are also included in the FIR.
