According to government officials who spoke with news agencies, Apple, through its vendors, may generate over half a million jobs in India over the next three years.
After encountering significant challenges during the Covid-19 outbreak, when the production of iPhones and other devices came under severe pressure, Apple has been attempting to diversify its manufacturing base away from China. Since then, Apple has made India a top priority for the location of its base, and the iPhone manufacturer has been making all the necessary preparations to establish a long-term presence in the nation.
While that has been true for the infrastructure, Apple has also been prioritizing hiring Indian workers more and more recently. According to reports, the business is also planning housing for its employees and concentrating on employing more and more. According to government sources cited by news agencies, Apple may hire around 500,000 workers in India through its suppliers during the course of the next three years. Tata Electronics, which operates two units for Apple, is the company that creates the most jobs there.
“Apple is accelerating hiring in India. At a conservative estimate, it is going to employ five lakh people in the next three years through its vendors and components suppliers,” a senior government officer told the sources.
With Apple hoping to increase manufacturing here by more than five times to $40 billion (about 3.32 lakh crore) in just four to five years, such a large workforce might be required. The effects and effect this tremendous expenditure of money on people and infrastructure is having on competitors is already apparent. According to market research firm Counterpoint Research, Apple lead the India market with the largest revenue in 2023 for the first time ever. In terms of volume sales, Samsung continued to lead the market.
In reality, Apple has surpassed the 10-million-unit milestone in sales and taken the top spot in terms of revenue for the first time in a calendar year. Apple’s iPhone exports from India increased to $12.1 billion in 2023–24 from $6.27 billion in 2022–23, according to another astounding number. This was a significant increase of about 100%, according to data provided by trade intelligence portal The Trade Vision. Apple hasn’t yet responded to these estimates or assertions, though.
