Fuel prices in the country are being hiked continuously since the start of this year. Petrol crossed the record-high mark and hit ₹ 107.54 per litre in the economic capital of the country, while diesel rates stood at ₹ 97.45 per litre. The main reason behind the frequent price hikes is the central and state taxes that determine the final cost of fuel in every state.
The government kept increasing the gasoline and diesel prices since last year even though the international crude oil prices collapsed, and the country went into a national lockdown.
