The PMO said, Prime Minister Modi will launch a digital payment solution, e-RUPI via video conferencing on August 2nd. e-RUPI is an electronic voucher-based platform, which has been developed by the Department of Financial Services, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), National Health Authority, Ministry of Health, and Family Welfare.

e-RUPI is a purpose specific and person specific payment system. It is a contactless and cashless payment option that will be delivered to the mobile phones of payees in the form of a SMS-string or QR code. e-RUPI is like a redeemable gift voucher that can be redeemed at any accepting centre without mobile app, internet banking, debit, or credit card.
