In July, the wholesale price-based inflation eased to 11.16% on cheaper food items for the second month. However, the prices of crude oil and manufactured goods are still high.
Due to a low base of last year, WPI inflation is still in double digit for three consecutive months. In July 2020, the WPI inflation rate was (-) 0.25 percent.
Even though onion prices spiked this month, inflation in food articles was at ‘zero’ percent in July, down from 3.09% in June. The inflation rate in onions was at 72.01% this month.
Inflation in natural gas and crude petroleum increased to 40.28% in July from 36.34% in June.
